War and the threat of terrorism. Two issues we think about every day, hear about on the news, and read about in the paper. Less than eighteen months ago, we lived in a different world. Code Orange was a phrase we heard in the summer on days when the ozone levels were especially high. Now Code Orange has a more ominous meaning; it conjures thoughts of duct tape and non-perishable foods, biological weapons and dirty bombs.

We're learning to cope with this new world, though, and the resiliency of the human spirit carries us forward. That is not to say that we understand all of what we are going through. We don't always have the words to explain it to ourselves, much less our children.

At the Ethics Resource Center, we strive to create dialogue about many of life's most important issues-the concepts of ethics and values. As part of this effort, we provide products and services that help families and schools face the tough issues. During this stressful and uncertain time, we are making available for free a special lesson from our school and family character development program that we hope will help you discuss the threat of war and terrorism with the children in your lives, and do so in a framework of values.

The home-based MAXIMize Your Family Time lessons
include all of the school material plus special tips and
discussion starters designated for use by families.
